Welcome to PINWIS (Pain Is Not What It Seems). As the name implies pain is, in fact, not what it seems. It would *seem* that we have sensors scattered throughout our bodies that detect damage and send pain signals to our brains. This, fortunately, is not how things are. And believe it or not, that is a good thing. Pain is actually much more complicated. It is more accurate to state that pain is a conscious, perceptual experience, much like thirst, hunger, fear, anxiety, lust, or anger.
